The Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA) has appointed Emeritus Professor Lee Jin-su at the National Cancer Center Graduate School of Cancer Science and Policy to serve as the seventh Chair of Healthcare Review and Assessment Committee. Chairman Lee commenced his duties after being sworn in an inauguration ceremony at the HIRA Headquarters in Wonju on May 3.

Chairman Lee said: “I recognize great effort is needed to expand the sustainable coverage of the National Health Insurance. My aim is to step up the role of this Committee, which has been tasked with evaluating the appropriateness of clinical validity and arranging evidence-based review standards while reflecting both domestic and international requirements.”

The newly-appointed Chairman Lee graduated from the Seoul National University College of Medicine and received his Ph.D. in Public Health at the same medical school. He then taught at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in the United States before he served as National Cancer Center President in Korea and then became the first Graduate School of Cancer Science and Policy President at the National Cancer Center.
