Inaugural Issue of HIRA Research Is Out

The new publication provides a venue for academic opinion on healthcare and health insurance policy.

.

The Health Insurance Research and Assessment Service (HIRA) released the first issue of HIRA Research on May 31. Lee Jin-yong conceived of the plan to publish an official academic journal when he took up his position as Chairman of the HIRA Research Institute in August of last year. The publication is aimed at bolstering professionalism and academicity as HIRA expands and restructures policy direction.

This first issue of HIRA Research presents fourteen papers on various topics submitted by members of the medical profession, academia, and healthcare-related organizations. The contents are accessible free of charge via the journal’s dedicated homepage (www.hira-research.or.kr). In addition, the homepage is equipped with an online submission and screening system that allows contributors to offer their papers for publication at any time. The second issue (Volume 2) of the biannual journal is due to come out on November 30. HIRA plans to register the contents of HIRA Research with the Korea Citation Index (KCI), thereby advancing its standing as an academic journal.

Executive Director Kim Sun-min of the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service says: “With HIRA Research we are accommodating the academic requirements that arise from the changing healthcare environment and are creating an open system of academic exchange. We want this journal to stimulate the free exchange of diverse research results and information on healthcare-related topics, thereby becoming a forum for public opinion that can help shape government policy on health insurance.”

HIRA Research Institute Chairman Lee, who is the chief editor of HIRA Research, says, “Going forward, we will gather various opinions in the field and promote academic debate. In the process, we will cover every area of healthcare and health insurance and help to establish an academic climate that can play a role in the establishment of public policy.
