Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (hereinafter referred to as “HIRA”) held an “on-line seminar for the development of health insurance systems both in Chile and Korea” with Superintendencia de Salud of Chile on October 6th, 2021.

The video seminar was proposed by Hyejin Kim, Director General of Ministry of Health and Welfare, who is dispatched to South Korean Embassy in Chile, to share knowledge and experience in healthcare between Superintendencia de Salud and HIRA and to enhance their future cooperation.

With the participation of Patricio Fernandes, Superintendent of Superintendencia de Salud and Sun Min Kim, Executive Director of HIRA, roles and functions of HIRA were introduced, after which attendees had a Q&A session and discussed their cooperation plans for the future.

In particular, HIRA drew keen attention by delivering presentations on benefit listing of drugs and pricing; claims review; and quality assessment that Superintendencia de Salud is mainly interested in.

Sun Min Kim, Executive Director of HIRA said “Recently, cooperation between Chile and Korea has been focused on IT, and I hope that our two organizations will grow and develop into representative organizations of each country’s health systems through mutual cooperation.”

Consulate General Hyejin Kim of South Korean Embassy in Chile, who also attended the meeting gave generous support, mentioning that “I hope this video seminar will serve as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation in the healthcare sector between the two countries.”

In addition, HIRA is providing with policy consulting on the purchase system of value-based healthcare service in Latin American countries at the request of Inter-American Development Bank.

With this seminar as a momentum, a business agreement with Superintendencia de Salud will be signed within this year to continue mutual cooperation, including practical policy proposals.
