HIRA, Virtual Meeting with Myanmar’s Ministry of Health and Sports

- Share Korea’s experience and discuss bilateral cooperation with two countries to achieve UHC -

 

□ Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (President Kim Sun-min, hereinafter “HIRA”) had a meeting with Myanmar’s Ministry of Health and Sports in Friday, September 11 at 3p.m. (local time) to achieve Universal Health Coverage.

 

 * Universal Health Coverage (UHC): UHC aims to ensure everyone receives the essential medical services they need without suffering financial hardship, selected as one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

     ○ This meeting was arranged by request from the Ministry of Health and Sports to share Korea’s experience about achieving UHC through Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Yangon, Myanmar (Ambassador Lee Sang-hwa).
     ○ 20 officials convened together to discuss UHC including Myanmar’s Ministry, embassy of the Republic of Korea in Myanmar and Southeast Asia Division 2 from Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

□ HIRA delivered presentation about Korea’s Health Insurance System and introduced HIRA’s main role and function. In addition, two parties shared their experiences with active Q&A session to make concrete cooperation in the near future.

     ○ “With limited healthcare resources, Myanmar want to provide efficient medical service to the people. So we want to learn Korea’s accumulated experience”, Mya Lay Sein, Deputy Minister for Health and Sports in Myanmar, said in the meeting. “I wish both of us would continue to work together,” he said.

 

□ Shin Hyun-woong, Executive Director of Planning in HIRA, responded by saying that HIRA has been contributed to achieving Korea’s UHC with ICT-based review & Quality Assessment in medical service and playing an important role to respond COVID19. Furthermore, Mr. Shin said HIRA would devote experience and knowhow to reach the global community’s goal of UHC including Myanmar with collaborating many countries.
